Riding the crest and facilitating the dynamic science of comparative religion, Shafa'at Ahmed Khan found his mark as late Sheikh Ahmed Deedat edited and oversaw the publication: The Al Burhaan. He then founded and established “The Muslim Seaman’s institute incorporating comparative religion lectures onboard ships as well as publishing the international sailors magazine: Al Bahaar. He completed a course with the Islamic medical association and qualified as a professional aids co-ordinator, which enjoys a high profile programme in the Durban harbour. Having studied journalism and broadcasting after obtaining a degree majoring in English and Theology, Shafa’at appeared regularly on a community station-Radio Jumuah and wrote as a freelance journalist for national and international Islamic journals. Currently Shafa’at presents three programmes on Cii: Doctors-on-Air, East Coast Splash and Comparative Religion. The early days of Cii, Shafa’at made his mark as an all rounder presenting the Saturday and Sunday morning programmes. He often hosted The platform, Biz Link, Perspectives and even enjoyed hosting Just Awesome. Shafa’at is as competent as he is versatile, incisive as a political reporter, professional as a profile and specialist broadcaster and entertaining as a magazine programme host. Shafa’at says Cii flows strongly in his veins. This Afghani who hails from a truly cosmopolitan family with a maternal memon side and surtee aunts and uncles, blends in perfectly with the demographics of Cii broadcasting which explains why he relates so well across such a wide spectrum and to such a diversified range of people.
