I was born in the centre of than apartheid Joburg in 1954.I grew up in Vrededorp and for a while in Kliptown, a suburb south of Joburg. I did my primary level secular education in Vrededorp and completed my secondary education at Nirvana High School in Lenasia. I received my basic Islamic education from different tutors at their homes. Amongst them was Late Ml.Yaqub Nana (R.A) and Brother Khalil Hassim, a well-known voice to Cii He was always very proud of me and went on to encourage my parents to send me to memorize the Holy Qur'aan. I attended the Waterval Islamic Institute where I did my Hifz (Memorizing the Holy Quraan) under the Tutorship of my Honourable Ustaad Haafiz Abdur-Rahmaan Ebrahim Mia Sahib (Daamat-Barakaatuhum) May the Almighty Allah grant him a long life. On completion, my ustaad sent me over to India to further my Islamic Studies. I studied in Dabhel, Gujraat for 5 years and then completed my Aalims course in (U.P) Utter Pradesh. After returning home, I worked as an Imam at the Jaame Masjid in Lenasia for three years and thereafter moved on to teaching, under the banner of the LMA. (Lenasia Muslim Association). I am currently a presenter at Cii and have been with them since inception. Alhamdu-Lillah I really enjoy being part of this global Islamic Station. |
